Is Education Truly Dangerous?

It isn’t necessary to explain that Hitler’s Nazi regime amounted to extreme totalitarianism. The leaders of the so-called “Master Race” considered huge numbers of human beings unworthy, even unworthy of life itself. But not all were to be exterminated. Some were needed as workers to produce goods and some were forced to become servants for the Nazi leaders.

In 1959, journalist William Shirer authored “The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich,” a monumental 1,200-page study detailing much about Europe’s experience with the Third Reich. Shirer laid out the attitude of Hitler and his chiefs about virtually everything in his remarkable work. He, of course, pointed to several varieties of horror practiced by the regime, and what he reported about education is especially revealing.

Hitler’s right-hand man, Martin Bormann, explained the Nazi thinking with regard to the already conquered Slavs in a 1942 letter sent to a fellow Party member. In part, it stated: “Education is dangerous. It is enough if they can count up to 100 …. Every educated person is a future enemy.” Heinrich Himmler, the dreaded leader of the secret police wrote that half of the conquered Czechs would be forced to become “workers.” Those from the educated class were “intellectuals” and they were to be “eliminated.”

As for the conquered Poles, Hitler himself stated that they were “born for low labor…. There can be no question of improvement for them. It is necessary to keep the standard of life low in Poland and it must not be permitted to rise.” Addressing the potential problem of Polish priests, Hitler stated, “… they will preach what we want them to preach. If any priest reacts differently, we shall make short work of him. The task of the priest is to keep the Poles quiet, stupid and dull-witted.”

Why bring this up in 2015? Simply because the education being supplied to America’s youth parallels what was given to the people conquered by Nazi Germany, even what many living in Germany were provided.

In December 2013, statistics compiled by the 34 member nations of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) ranked America’s teenagers as follows: 31st in math; 24th in science; and 21st in reading. Each of these rankings was worse than it had been over the preceding three years. Each continues to sink.

So what have the nation’s educrats done to address the continuing slide? They gave America’s students Race to the Top, Outcome Based Education, Goals 2000, and No Child Left Behind. None of those programs helped to reverse the downward trend. Now they have produced Common Core, which is being resisted by many because it, too, will not bring improvement. It will lead even more surely to the kind of uneducated worker bees sought in years past by the Nazi regime.

High School teacher Stacie Starr was never ordinary. So good was she as an instructor of ninth grade students at Elyria High in Ohio that she was named as the “top teacher” by ABC’s “LIVE! With Kelly and Michael.” Less than a year after appearing on the nationally viewed program, she spoke at an Ohio education forum and stunned the parents in attendance by announcing that she was quitting her job at the end of the current school year.

According to a report compiled by World Net Daily, Ms. Starr told her stunned audience that she could no longer deal with the federally imposed Common Core system all teachers have to employ. “Each and every day, I have to look into my students’ eyes and tell them I can’t help them,” she tearfully stated. She can’t do what she always thought a teacher is supposed to do because the Common Core standards are in the way.

Common Core is the latest education program forced on schools by the federal government. In the 1990s, Goals 2000 preceded Outcome-Based Education. Both failed to reverse the downward slide in student performance. President Barack Obama introduced Race to the Top in 2009 and federal funding for that program went to states willing to accept Common Core. As has always been certain, what the federal government finances, it will control.

Several years back when the Common Core standards were compiled, a prestigious Validation Committee was handed the task of judging the program’s merits. But only two members of that committee, one a teacher of English (Dr. Sandra Stotsky) and the other a Mathematics instructor (Dr. James Milgram), were actual classroom instructors and both of them turned thumbs down on the program. The other committee members, all professional educationists, had no background in anything but educational processes and it was they who approved Common Core.

David Coleman, the primary author of Common Core, has now moved on to leadership of the College Board, the creator of the SAT exams. Students expecting to gain admission to a favored college or university must do well with the SAT challenge. Therefore, they will have to be familiar with the Common Core program that many educators have already deemed deficient. All of which means that Common Core must be adopted, not only by public schools, but also by the nation’s religious and homeschool programs.

Only several years ago, a prestigious international group measured the educational performance of high schools students nation by nation. Among the top industrialized nations, America’s teens were ranked 31st in math, 24th in science, and 21st in reading. According to numerous teachers and parents, those scores are sure to sink even farther because Common Core doesn’t focus on subject matter, only on educational processes.

After Stacie Starr announced her plan to quit teaching, Ohio third-grade teacher Jackie Conrad made a similar announcement. In New York, veteran sixth-grade teacher Jennifer Rickert asked for reassignment because of her objections to Common Core. In Georgia, Hall County teacher Meg Norris left her teaching job because of the disastrous results to her students due to Common Core.

The answer to all of this is to get the federal government out of education. Let the states compete against each other. Competition always brings excellence. College Board’s New History Course Deemed “Marxist”

The uproar over the insertion of Common Core Standards into the U.S. education system has been heard from coast to coast. Many parents don’t like the new program and have expressed their dismay over what they have learned about it. The complaints are liable to grow even more intense now that the College Board’s history curriculum has been examined.

Before discussing the content of the new history guidelines, it’s important know that the College Board produces material both for advanced placement (AP) courses and for the SAT exams taken by high school students on their way to college. High SAT scores have always been considered essential to be accepted by a favored college. So all who aspire for higher education are pawns in the game of whoever devises the AP courses and the tests created by the SAT compilers. But what if those hurdles for high schoolers are full of anti-American Marxism? Sadly, this is what has happened.

The single most important person behind creation of Common Core is Dr. David Coleman. Soon after he succeeded in getting Common Core adopted in most states, he won appointment as president of the College Board. He now oversees what the curricula will be for AP courses and what will be the SAT test questions. He has wasted no time in revising these materials.

World Net Daily has reported the findings of President Peter Wood of the National Association of Scholars. Wood examined the new course material and describes the AP history curriculum as “a briefing document on progressive and leftist views of America’s past.” He labels what he has seen “a vaguely Marxist or at least materialist reading of the key events” in our nation’s past. Author Stanley Kurtz has accused the College Board of “pushing U.S. history as far to the left as it can get away with.”

Others recognize the new material as a sharp left-ward turn from what was previously supplied to high school AP history teachers. Larry Krieger has taught history for 35 years and has written many popular AP and SAT preparation books. He labels the new history curriculum “relentless left-wing indoctrination.” Attorney Jane Robbins worked with Krieger and found that 181 points made in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills program are absent in the new College Board history course. Robbins believes that the deficiencies and historical inaccuracies in the new material will work their way down into all levels, not just the AP classes. Texas school board member Ken Mercer claims that “only America haters” will applaud the new materials.

Students subjected to this new program will learn little positive or nothing at all about America’s founders, the successful defeat of Japan and Germany in World War II, the building of a prosperous nation, and more. Instead, they will learn that the early Americans immigrants from Europe should be remembered as evildoers who brought disease and slavery to the newly discovered continent. In the new curriculum, real American heroes are ignored and questionable characters are glorified.

We hope that the uproar about Common Core and the new history curriculum will grow to a point where the federal government’s use of taxpayers’ money to bribe states into accepting the program will help many to see how dangerous federal involvement in the important field of education truly is. In 1932, William Z. Foster led the Communist Party USA as its National Chairman. His book, “Toward Soviet America,” published that year, spelled out what changes the communists would work for in order to have our nation succumb to their rule. On page 316, Foster spelled out the following: “… the schools, colleges, and universities will be coordinated and grouped under a National Department of Education and its state and local branches. The studies will be revolutionized, being cleansed of religious, patriotic and other features of the bourgeois ideology…. [Curriculum will focus on] internationalism and the general ethics of the new Socialist society.”

In 1979, Congress approved and President Carter signed a measure creating the cabinet-level Department of Education. Score one for Foster. And the schools have largely been cleansed of anything related to religion and patriotism. Score a second victory for Foster. What communists wanted as far back as 1932 has largely been accomplished. Along with their victories, the quality of education throughout the nation has deteriorated year to year.

Skip ahead to 1983 when a federal panel known as the National Commission on Excellence in Education issued its findings after 18 months of looking into the matter. In its report entitled “A Nation at Risk,” the panel stated:

If an unfriendly foreign power had attempted to impose on America the mediocre education performance that exists today, we might well have viewed it as an act of war. As it stands, we have allowed this to happen to ourselves.

But the performance of America’s schools didn’t get better; it got worse. By 2009, Harvard University’s Program on Education and Governance issued ratings of U.S. students compared to those in other nations. Our students registered 25th in math, 17th in science, and 14th in reading. Four years later, America’s teenagers were ranked 31st in math, 24th in science, and 21st in reading. In other words, the Department of Education’s domination over education has resulted in a disaster. Programs such as Outcome Based Education, No Child Left Behind, and Race To the Top have failed. Each has actually contributed to the steady decline.

It’s not easy to find the monetary costs of the Department of Education. Some searching showed that its requested budget for Fiscal Year 2012 called for $77.4 billion, plus $9.3 billion mandatory spending, and $113 billion for student loans. With 4,300 full-time employees, the department directs a maze of 230 separate programs. More recent budgets continue to rise. But the results continued downward.

There is absolutely no authorization in the U.S. Constitution for any federal involvement in education. If William Z. Foster were still alive, he would be pounding his chest and claiming great successes. He would surely approve of the Department of Education’s newest fiasco, the Common Core Standards for America’s schools. Critics already claim this program will worsen an already dismal record.

The Department of Education can’t be fixed. It never should have been started and should be abolished.

Gilford, New Hampshire, resident William Baer attended a school committee meeting May 5th and ended up being handcuffed and arrested for disorderly conduct.

The father of a 14-year-old girl, Baer objected after learning that his daughter and her ninth-grade classmates were required to read a book he deemed pornographic. The offensive passage he pointed to in “Nineteen Minutes” by Jodi Picoult graphically described a sexual encounter between two teens. “It’s like the transcript for a triple-X-rated movie,” said one parent. Having read this passage myself, I concur that Ms. Picoult’s work is totally unsuitable for a school assignment, and should deservedly be described as pornographic.

Baer, an attorney and a fairly new resident of the Granite State, had taken the offending passage’s text to the editor of the regional Laconia Daily News. He was told by Editor Ed Engler that it could not be published in “99 percent, maybe 100 percent” of our nation’s newspapers. A spokesman at the state-wide Manchester Union Leader newspaper agreed.

At the meeting of the Gilford School Board, Baer protested the assignment given the ninth graders. Allowed only two minutes to speak, he did so and sat down. But when he interrupted another parent who was commenting favorably about the issue, he was told by a board official that he was out of order. A police officer intervened and Bear asked him, “You’re going to arrest me because I violated the two-minute rule? I guess you’re going to have to arrest me.” Baer was escorted from the room, shackled, and placed under arrest.

A school committee spokesman later apologized for not notifying parents ahead of time about the sexually explicit portion of the book, something that had been done every year beginning in 2007. She said the committee “forgot” to send notification this year. One can wonder why there were no parental objections in past years. Apparently, this school board official believes that the 2014 failure to notify parents should be the issue not the book’s controversial content. Gilford School Superintendent said the book was “thematically important.”

Reporter Ben Velderman of the Michigan-based Education Action Group Foundation recommended a “thorough housecleaning” of the school board. Commenting further, he stated:

The parent who exposed the district’s failure to warn families about the novel gets arrested for protesting too vigorously while all of the school district’s well-paid, highly trained employees who are responsible for the problem – from the superintendent down to the high school principal and English teachers – walk away scot free. If that’s not an outrage, then please tell us what is.

Incidents such as what happened in this small New Hampshire community occur repeatedly all over the nation. School officials respond to protests about course content by referencing freedom of speech, or the phony need for “separation of church and state,” or pointing to a need for majority rule. But all residents are taxed to support the schools, even those who have no children, or who avoid the public school system’s deficiencies by home schooling their youngsters. Compulsion in financing the schools should be an issue.

Contacted about the incident author and New Hampshire resident Jodi Picoult said she was “grateful for the support for the book” and claimed it was no more pornographic than what is shown repeatedly on television. She may be correct about that, but that isn’t the issue either. The issue is how far America’s moral compass has shifted in the last few decades. The College Board has long provided the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test). For aspiring college entrants, winning acceptance by the institution of one’s choice has depended to a large degree on how well he or she scored on the three-hour SAT. Preparatory instruction seminars designed to help students do well on the test became a fixture in many communities.

SAT has faced competition from a rival known as ACT (American College Test). Tutoring prior to taking its test has also flourished. Where SAT had always dominated the field, its grip on testing high schoolers has shrunk. In 2013, ACT counted 1.8 million takers while SAT slipped to second place with 1.7 million.

In 2012, Common Core Standards architect David Coleman left his federal post and accepted the presidency of College Board, the parent of SAT. He indicated he was leaving his work with the highly criticized and controversial Common Core program in order to improve the SAT which, he claimed, “had become disconnected from the work of our high schools.” Common Core has already demonstrated that its goals will substitute technical and procedural education for traditional and classical studies in the fields of literature, math, science, etc. In other words, the new Common Core program will revolutionize education.

Unfortunately, approximately 45 state education boards have signed on to the new Common Core Standards. That they were bribed to do so by federal education handouts is key to understanding their speedy and ill-advised acceptance. It would now seem that David Coleman’s newly announced plans to revise SAT will accommodate the work he has already done as a Common Core architect. Because various state education boards have already committed to Common Core, they will of necessity stay with or revert back to SAT. Rival ACT will obviously have to adapt to what students are being given by Common Core.

Lost in the discussions about SAT being reworked is the chilling news that educational quality in the United States continues to plummet. Now anywhere from 17th to 25th in national ratings, our country doesn’t need a revised SAT as much as it needs the federal government out of education. Try to find authorization for federal involvement in education in the Constitution. One doesn’t need a high score on either SAT or ACT to see it doesn’t exist, Which leads to the conclusion that tinkering with the tests given to aspiring college entrants isn’t what’s needed. Getting fedgov out of education and letting communities across the nation manage their own schools is far more important, if the plunge into mediocrity and worse is to be reversed.

First Agenda 21, Now Common Core: Another Manifesto Plank Pursued

“Agenda 21” arose from the enormous 1992 United Nations conference about the environment held in Rio de Janeiro. A thousand-page book, it outlines ways to take over local governments throughout the world, all done in the name of “sustainability.” But none who are being enticed into accepting funds and accompanying controls were told that they were accepting a United Nations program designed to move the world into the New World Order.

More recently, educationists within the United States have been busy inserting new educational standards for America’s schools. Called “Common Core,” these standards come with the usual federal funding that should be labeled bribery. Many local school departments have signed on and now see their goals being set by educational bureaucrats led by Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. He even admitted when speaking to the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2010 of his commitment to a “cradle-to-career education agenda … that starts with early childhood learning and extends all the way to college and careers.”

In the field of literature, Common Core will replace student exposure to the classics with reading technical documents. In mathematics, a Common Core instructor of other teachers has defended a student’s wrong answer to a simple multiplication question with, “It’s OK as long as he can explain the process” by which he arrived at the incorrect answer. Common Core expects to set the standards for all subjects. They will surely bring down the already abysmal performance of our nation’s educational system.

There’s much more to be said about Common Core, but let’s sum it up by asserting that the purpose isn’t to educate in the traditional sense. It is to create human drones for the looming New World Order. The goal is a world government run by a powerful few with the rest of mankind required to keep their place in menial work for the elite.

Where is all this coming from? We urge taking a look at “The Communist Manifesto” given to the world by Marx and Engels in 1848. After boldly proclaiming their intent to bring about “abolition of private property” (clearly the goal of Agenda 21), the Manifesto proceeds to attack a free people’s culture by aiming at the family, morality, independent countries, and more. The tenth of its famous Ten Planks calls for “Free education for all children in public schools.” The world “public,” of course, means government. Then this very same passage mentions the goal of combining “education with industrial production,” Which is precisely what we mean when we say that Common Core’s purpose is “to create human drones for the New World Order.”

Many Americans have become disturbed when made aware of Agenda 21 and Common Core. Resistance to both is building. But tearing down programs that have been built by the federal government that has power of virtually unlimited funding to bribe people into destroying their own freedom isn’t an easy task. Readers of this short piece who value freedom and all that goes with it are needed to swell the resistance and get America back on track once again.
